Procedures for Ensuring the Originality of Papers Published in the Journal

 All materials submitted for publication in the journal are reviewed by two independent reviewers who assess both the content and the originality of the work.

All submitted articles must be accompanied by the authors' declaration that the work has not been submitted to any other journal and has not previously been published.

By submitting an article to this journal the authors accept that it will be screened for plagiarism. All detected cases of scientific misconduct will be disclosed, including notification of the appropriate institutions.

 Any verbatim quotes from other articles must be enclosed in quotation marks and explicitly attributed to the original sources.

The editorial board’s final evaluation of each article is based in part on criteria developed by the Committee on Publication Ethics.

Instructions for authors

 Requirements to publications in Journal “Pathologia”

Editorial board accepts works in Ukrainian or English, never published before and not submitted to other periodicals, according to the main headings of the journal:

• review articles and lectures on modern concepts of medicine and pathology;
• original experimental, pathomorphological and clinical studies on various aspects of human pathology and modern medicine;
• modern technologies of diagnostics and treatment;
• new original methods of scientific researches;
• controversial aspects of pathology and other branches of modern medicine;
• unique observations from practice;
• for medical practitioners;
• reviews of monographs and textbooks;
• Information about scientific forums, congresses, symposia and conferences;
• significant dates, anniversaries, and the pages of history.

Articles, which have been already published in other editions or were submitted for publication to some editions at the same time, as well as the works which are a remake of the articles published before and do not contain new scientific material or new scientific comprehension of already known material are not submitted.

All the articles are reviewed anonymously by experienced specialists of the editorial board and the editorial council of the journal and involved experts from other countries. Published articles and extended abstracts in English are open to public access on the WEB-site of the journal; qualitative parameters of articles, transliterated list of references and extended abstracts in English are analyzed by international scientometrical and bibliographic databases. Copies of articles in PDF format are posted on the site of Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine, abstracts are published in refereed Ukrainian journal "Dzherelo".

І. Requirements to the volume, format, structure and content of the articles

Manuscripts of articles and accompanying materials are accepted on paper and in electronic form via email at the same time.

Manuscript format. The text is printed with 1.5-spacing throughout the text on a standard paper (A4 size; width of fields: on the left, above and below –2 cm, on the right —1 cm) in Times New Roman 14 points. The page of the text should contain no more than 30 lines.

The language of the articles is Ukrainian and English.

Original articles structure:

The material of the article should be placed in the following order:

• Header of the article

– UDC index,
– initials and the last name of the author (authors),
– title of the article (no more than 150 signs), without the use of abbreviations (except common ones, such as DNA, RNA, ATP),
– a complete name of the establishment (establishments) where the work was done, city, country (if the authors are from different establishments, the author's name and the name of his establishment are denoted by numbers ^{1, 2,3}),
– two abstracts — in Ukrainian and English 250-300 words after the following scheme: title of the article, initials and the last name of author (authors), text of the abstract with the main research results: Aim, Materials and methods, Results, Conclusions; Key words.

• Introduction (current state and actuality of the problem, its unsolved aspects)
• Aim of the research
• Materials and methods of the research (principle of selection and quantitative characteristics of material for research and distribution of research objects into groups, description of applied methods of experimental, pathomorphological, clinical research and methods of statistical analysis of quantitative research results)
• Research results (results should not repeat previously published data, reference to previous publications of the author is recommended); medical terms are given according to anatomical, histological nomenclature and ICD-10, physical quantities and units – in The International System of Units (SI), abbreviations of words and word combinations are given according to DSTU 3582-97 and GOST 7.12-93.; description of the results is accompanied by tables, diagrams, graphs, and microphotographs;
• Discussion (in the discussion obtained results are compared with similar and different results of other authors, the possible causes of results discrepancy are explained).
• Conclusions (they are given in numbered paragraphs; they follow from the results of the executed research and solve the aim of the research).
• Perspectives of subsequent scientific research, it is desirable submit them in the last paragraph of the article.
• Conflicts of interest declaration
• References (in two variants).  

The references must contain the list of works for the last 5 years, for review – for the last 2 years. In the original works, no less than 15 sources are quoted, and in the reviews – up to 30. Every work in the literature list should be referred to in the manuscript. The literature in the list is ordered according to reference to it in the text of the article, which is given in the square brackets. All sources must be unique (one source is mentioned only once in the bibliography).

A numbered references list is given after the main text of the article with a subtitle “References.” References list should be formatted according to the requirements of the globally accepted style Vancouver. 

The International System of Units (SI) should be used in the articles.

Figures and signatures to them are made separately. On the back side of every figure by a lead pencil one should indicate its number and title of the articles, and if necessary to note the top and bottom.

The tables (no more than three) should be placed on separate pages, be numbered and titled. The information given in tables and figures must not be duplicated.

Color microphotographs and images for publication on the colored inserts in the journal "Pathologia" are submitted electronically by separate JPEG or TIFF files (sized not less than 10 × 15 cm, not less than 300 dpi, without editing in Adobe Photoshop).

In the name of the file author's last name and number of figure must be noted (eg, author_fig_1a.tif). 

• Information about authors and address for correspondence. In the end of the article information about the authors is attached in Ukrainian and in English (in paper copy – on a separate page): the last name, name and patronymic (in a full form), academic title, academic degree, place of work, occupation, ORCID ID, address for correspondence, phone number ,e-mail address. 

ІІ. REQUIREMENTS FOR illustrative material

All the illustrative material is described and interpreted in the text of the work.

Color microphotographs and color figures (color model CMYK, no more than eight) are submitted in electronic form by separate files in JPEG or TIFF format with resolution of 300-600 dpi, (without editing in Adobe Photoshop).

Semitone microphotographs in 300 dpi Gray Scale (256 gradations of gray) are also accepted. Microphotographs sent only on paper are not accepted. Microphotographs captions are submitted in doc format in a separate file and a separate sheet.

Graphic stroke material (figures) should be submitted in separate files of the XLS, WMF, AI or EPS formats with resolution of 600 dpi B&W. 

Graphs should have axis titles with units, legends, confidence intervals, designations of statistical significance and differences between groups.

Tables must contain a short name without abbreviations. In subheadings of columns and rows the method and measurement units are specified, where it is necessary.

All notes and explanatory inscriptions should be placed not in the headlines, but in the captions under tables and graphs. To denote the significance of differences symbols * † ‡ † ‡ § ¦ ¶, should be used under tables and graphs explaining their meaning in the caption.

ІІІ. Accompanying documents

For publication of an article, lecture and other materials the following documents are sent to the editorial board of jornal"Pathologia":

• letter of the chief on the letterhead of the institution, or letter of the chief vised with the round seal of institution.
• the expert inference, that authorizes the open publication
• printed copy of an article marked "for publication" on the title page should be submitted to editorial, signed by all the authors. By their signatures the authors guarantee that experimental and clinical researches have been executed according to the International ethical norms of scientific researches, and also they give the publisher a right for publication of the article in the Journal, placing it and its materials on the Journal’s site and in other sources. If used in the article materials are intellectual property of some organizations and have not been published before, an author should get permission for their publication from each of these organizations and send it together with the article.

The publication of materials in the journal requires payment. Publication of photos on colored inserts is available for an additional payment. Payment is made after positive review of articles and approval of them to printing, about which the authors are informed additionally.

 ІV. Rewievs

Scientific articles are reviewed anonymously by experienced specialists of the editorial board and the editorial council of the journal or involved experts from other countries. The reviewers estimate actuality,modern methodical level, reliability and scientific novelty of the results, and correspondence of the article design to the editorial requirements. If the reviewer recommends to correct or complete the article, the editorial staff sends the anonymous review text to the author for inserting proper changes in. The date of article’s coming to the Journal is the day when editorial office receives the final variant of the text. The Journal reserves the right for editorial correcting, which does not distort its contents. The final decision about the publication of the article and its terms is made by the editorial board. After approval of the article publication the editorial staff informs the author about it.

The rejected articles are not returned and are not resubmitted.

Originals of the articles and reviews are kept in the editorial during 1 year.
